HAWS is an independent, registered non-profit organization (WO No: 026-799-NPO) serving the community of Madibeng (Brits, Hartbeespoort and surrounding areas) - a large region experiencing rapid development and population growth. Since 2000 we have provided welfare services for abandoned, neglected and abused pets, farm animals and wildlife.
Some of our objectives are:
To educate and inform on animal welfare issues;
To provide a safe haven for all unwanted animals;
To promote correct & humane animal care;
To re-home unwanted or stray animals where they will receive quality care;
To provide inspections of premises where abuse or neglect has been reported.
We operate our kennel and cattery in Hartbeespoort, (Rietfontein area), where we provide a home for up to 70 dogs and 40 cats, veterinary treatment for sick and injured animals, and a re-homing service. Our full-time staff includes a Kennel Manager and three assistants. They are helped by a dedicated group of volunteers. HAWS is administered by a Management Committee elected by the Members of HAWS.
Our operation is funded entirely by voluntary donations and fundraising, with no government assistance.
We recently built new kennels on rented property. Although we have been able to give the animals a better home, the operation is still lacking in that we have no quarantine area for sick animals or stray that are brought in. If you are able to assist us with the building of our quarantine by means of labour, building materials or money, please contact our Secretary on this email.
