HAWS is an independent, registered non-profit organization (WO No: 026-799-NPO) serving the community of Madibeng (Brits, Hartbeespoort and surrounding areas) - a large region experiencing rapid development and population growth. Since 2000 we have provided welfare services for abandoned, neglected and abused pets, farm animals and wildlife.

Some of our objectives are:

  • To educate and inform on animal welfare issues;
  • To provide a safe haven for all unwanted animals;
  • To promote correct & humane animal care;
  • To re-home unwanted or stray animals where they will receive quality care;
  • To provide inspections of premises where abuse or neglect has been reported.

We operate our kennel and cattery in Hartbeespoort, (Rietfontein area), where we provide a home for up to 80 dogs and 45 cats, veterinary treatment for sick and injured animals, and a re-homing service. Our full-time staff includes a Kennel Manager and three assistants. They are helped by a dedicated group of volunteers. HAWS is administered by a Management Committee elected by the Members of HAWS.

Our operation is funded entirely by voluntary donations and fundraising, with no government assistance.

This is Patrick
Patrick smiles when you talk to him. He is a friendly, playful little dog who is great with kids and other dogs. At only two years old, he would fit in easily with dogs of any kind. If you feel you could provide Patrick with the love and attention he deserves, then please click here.

Meet Joy.
He was found with bite wounds from an altercation with a group of meerkats. He is a very affectionate cat. He's only 3 years old and is looking for a loving home. If Joy has stolen your heart, then please click here.
